Chicks with Bows - Mariah

Chicks with Bows is a series we plan on working on over the next couple months.  We'll be capturing girls wearing bows in different ways.  This look started with model, Sami Annie - see her shoot here (http://beautyandthebeachphotography.blogspot.com/2011/08/sami-pink-bow-post.html) over a year ago and was such a hit we decided to explore it further.

So I invited my niece, Mariah, to pose for a revisit to our original shoot.  The look we went for was very very Pretty Muse, girlie and fun and beauty.

With the sun dipping off the horizon and the wind kicking up we only had a short window of time before our light would be gone.  Since we shoot mostly natural light mother nature dictates so much of what and how we shoot.  But Mariah, unruffled by the time and light, wind or weather got into her zone and leisurely hit pose after pose.

Ok, I think this one is my favorite.  This is an OMG shot for sure.

Mariah, thank you again.  I always love it when you come to visit.  I love that we get our creative juices flowing and simply MUST shoot and shoot and shoot some more. I love shooting you because each time I shoot you I meet another persona, you go away and disappear behind a mask of another character and then come back again.

Sneak Peek - Chicks with Bows - Mariah

Here's a little peek at the first in a series called Chicks with Bows.  This is Mariah Janbou, make up artist and photographer from Michigan.   This shoot will be posting here shortly, along with it's video.

The Pink and Orange Headpiece with Julie DeCoste

Last year my niece, Mariah, and I set out to make this head piece for a shoot we hoped to do that weekend.  Well a year later we got to finish the headpiece and shoot it.  Inspired again by world renown photographer Manny Librodo, we set out to create a fantasy, dreamy, girlie, simple little shoot with one look.  The goal of the shoot was to create branding images for Pretty Muse.  Images that reflect the spirt of what we do.



Mariah is a self taught makeup artist.  Give this girl a brush and some pigments and you are going to get something that will knock your socks off. We unleashed her with a mass of makeup and brushes and an array of false eyelashes and she went to work creating the finishing touches of Julie DeCoste's look.  I think you'll agree the makeup is incredible.

So we took Julie DeCoste, who was also visiting Stuart, Florida and made a simple little dress and plunked her down amidst the foliage outside.  We put the reflector behind her and draped a bunch of tulle and chiffon fabric in varying colors of pink and orange into the leaves.  And she, unfazed by her own spectacle, she had no idea how incredibly beautiful she looked, she gave us one pose after the next.  I was thrilled because these are indeed very VERY Pretty Muse.  So our goal was more than satisfied.

Shay's Bourdoir Shoot

As I was hitting the shutter model Shay Hummel responded by slightly shifting her pose click after click.  She lowered her eyes slighty, click.  Lower, click.  Lower. Click.

Tilt the chin.
Click.

Perfect. This is exactly what I want from a model some one who listens to the camera and knows when to shift. I'll admit it. She surprised me because earlier when she showed up at 9:00 AM for hair and makeup she was shy and timid.  She was visibly nervous and sat quiet as a mouse as Lindsay did her hair and makeup.  Who is Lindsay?  More on her later.

As the shoot progressed little Shay transformed into a confident, sexy vixen and had us laughing too.  She was jumping on the bed using her hands as guns to shoot us all down.  She is one little model my camera can't wait to get in front of the lens again!  Great work Shay!

Okay, how amazing is she?  Shay, you really wowed us!

Now a word about Lindsay LaSalla.  She's a hair and makeup artist and is a total professional.  She's definitely going places as a HMUA, she's already done Fashion Week in Miami and she knew exactly when to step in and make an adjustment during our shoot.  Clearly she did an AMAZING transformation (look at the before and after pictures).  She understood what I was looking for and didn't stop until she had it nailed to a fault.  I was incredibly impressed and have no intention of letting this girl get away!

Lindsay transformed Shay's hair with each clothing change.  Although I loved the way she splayed out her hair and added roses it was the french twist with a tail was my favorite.  Lindsay, consider yourself formally offered to be a part of the Pretty Muse team.  :)

One last word to Shay and Lindsay, oh my!!!!  I loved working with you both!  You guys were absolutely awesome and I can't wait to work with you together again!  I hope you both get LOTS of mileage out of this shoot, you deserve it!  Never settle for second rate, anywhere, with anyone.  You deserve the very best!
